At The Center on Colfax, our mission has always been grounded in equity, justice, and the dignity of all people. We are writing today to share an important step in aligning our values with our actions: The Center and Denver Pride will be divesting from Chevron and no longer accepting financial contributions from the company.
We want to be clear—this decision is not a judgment on the employees of Chevron. In fact, we recognize and deeply appreciate the individuals within the company who have shown courage by advocating for LGBTQ+ inclusion and support. These internal efforts have often brought meaningful change, and we hold those acts of allyship in high regard.
However, as a community organization committed to justice and collective liberation, it is our duty to listen when our community raises concerns. Over the past year, we have heard clearly from voices across our movement—advocates, members, and partners—who have expressed concern about Chevron’s involvement in global systems of harm, including the production of materials used in weapons contributing to violence and genocide.
This is not a decision we made lightly. This outcome was determined collectively after open discussions and feedback shared from our staff. We depend on sponsorships and community support to keep our programming and resources free and accessible. The Center provides vital services—from mental health care and community connections to cultural events and youth programming—at no cost to those who need them. That work is only possible because of the generous contributions from funders and sponsors who believe in our mission.
While divesting from Chevron is both necessary and doable, we want to be transparent: without the support of aligned sponsors and donors, we could not continue offering the community care our organization exists to provide.
We will continue to grow our partnerships with value-aligned organizations and individuals who believe in liberation for all people, across borders and identities. We also remain committed to transparent dialogue and will keep listening to the voices that guide us toward accountability and transformation.
Thank you for standing with us. Together, we can build a future rooted in justice and care.
