Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Justice issued a subpoena to Children’s Hospital Colorado as part of a broader investigation into gender-affirming care for transgender youth under the age of 19. This news is alarming, deeply concerning, and adds to the uncertainty many families already face when trying to access life-saving care.
At this time, Children’s Hospital Colorado continues to provide gender-affirming care to youth under the age of 19. Families currently receiving care through Children’s Hospital Colorado can expect direct updates from their healthcare providers or the hospital regarding any changes.
Denver Health has not received a subpoena and continues to provide gender-affirming care to youth. Their staff is monitoring the situation closely and will communicate directly with families about any developments.
Kaiser Permanente announced last week that it will be pausing gender-affirming surgeries for patients under 19 as of August 29, 2025. This decision applies to the 40 hospitals and 612 medical offices Kaiser operates across the nation.
We are also deeply saddened by the impact these decisions will have across the country. These actions reflect a growing and alarming trend of restricted access to essential care that disproportionately impacts Black and Brown communities and under-resourced families.
We stand firmly in solidarity with all transgender youth and their families who are affected by these developments.
Our team is actively engaged with healthcare providers and partner organizations across Colorado. As policies around gender-affirming care evolve federally and statewide, we are committed to providing timely, accurate, and reliable information to our community.
The Center remains wholeheartedly dedicated to serving and supporting our community. We are, and always will be, a safe haven for trans and gender-diverse youth, families, and anyone seeking support, affirmation, and care.
We invite youth seeking a safe and supportive space to join us at our weekly Rainbow Alley programming, available virtually every Tuesday and in-person every Wednesday and Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. For parents and caregivers, our Trans Inclusive Family Support Group meets the first Wednesday of each month, and our Trusted Adults Virtual Space meets on the second Monday of each month. Both groups provide space to share resources and receive support from fellow families.
Through all uncertainty, remember you are not alone. Our community is strong, resilient, and has weathered past storms, emerging brighter each time. No matter what comes next, we will face it together.
