We are outraged to see the Trump administration removed the Pride flag from Stonewall National Memorial.
This happened during Black History Month. That timing matters. Because the Stonewall uprising — the very foundation of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement — was led by Black and Brown trans women and gender-nonconforming people who refused to be silenced. Black and Brown queer leaders risked their safety, their freedom, and their lives to demand dignity. To remove a symbol of Pride in this moment is to attempt to erase not just LGBTQ+ people, but the truth of who led us here.
