Attention Community Members:

The Center on Colfax has received an update regarding the kick off of the East Colfax Avenue Bus Rapid Transit Project. The first phase of the project is set to begin next week on Monday, October 7, 2024. Click here for more information in English and Spanish.

What does this mean for the Center on Colfax?

Timeline:

  • The Center on Colfax will be impacted by Segment 1 of the Project. Segment 1 will run from October 2024 to Spring 2026 from Broadway to N. Williams Street. There will be several phases throughout Segment 1, but the Center on Colfax will be impacted throughout them.
  • Phase 1 of the project we are entering is 4 to 6 weeks. Colfax BRT will be publishing additional information the closer we get to the end of this phase.

New Lane Configurations:

  • East Colfax will be reduced to one lane in each direction (East/West) starting next Monday, October 7, 2024.
  • The parking lanes and meters along East Colfax will be removed during this project.

Parking:

  • There will be no street parking on East Colfax within the timeline of this project.
  • There will still be side-street parking during the duration of this project.
  • The Center on Colfax’s parking lot will not be impacted by this project. There is the potential for construction to limit access to the parking lot from East Colfax for a small window.
    • In this event, East Colfax BRT has assured us that you will still be able to turn on North Lafayette and that 16th Street/Park Avenue will not impacted during this project.

Bus Stop(s):

  • RTD Services will continue to be active throughout the duration of this project. You can sign up for alerts by clicking Service Alerts • RTD (rtd-denver.com)
  • RTD is adding two additional bus stops next to the Center on Colfax that will remain open for the duration of this project. These locations can be found on both the Spanish and English version of the Construction Notice.
    • On the North side of East Colfax, a temporary bus stop will be added between the Center on Colfax & City Records (between N. Lafayette and N. Humboldt)
    • On the South side of East Colfax, a temporary bus stop will be added between N. Downing and N. Lafayette.

Sidewalks, Signage and Barriers:

  • Colfax BRT will be installing signage, barriers, and having flaggers to direct traffic at various points from Broadway to N. Williams Street. Please pay attention to these as traffic patterns are going to be changing dramatically.
  • East Colfax BRT will be installing additional ADA ramps/paths, replacing damaged sidewalk sections, and changing pedestrian pathways. East Colfax BRT has assured us that people will be able to reach the Center on Colfax by ADA compliant pathways or via biking; however, please be aware that there may be some detours needed. These detours will be marked.

Operations & Closures at The Center on Colfax:

  • Please expect construction to happen between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with the potential for additional construction over night or on the weekends.
    • We have informed Colfax BRT of our general business hours including our Saturday programming and will be in active conversations with them to limit, as much as possible, impacts to our programs.
    • Construction may cause excessive noise, vibrations,  or dust – please be aware that there may be a lot of sensory overload during the duration of this project.
  • While we do not anticipate losing power, water, or internet connectivity during this project; there is still the potential for losing one portion of our infrastructure. East Colfax BRT will notify us at least 24 hours in advance of any impact to our ability to operate normally.
    • If we are closed due to construction, we will post a notice on our website and send out an email notification for any scheduled programming that day. If you have questions on if we are open, please feel free to call us at 303-733-7743 or email us at info@lgbtqcolorado.org
    • For more information on the phasing of the project, please visit East Colfax BRT’s website here
