According to the American Music Therapy Association, music therapy is defined as "the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program."

Music therapy is client-centered, utilizing the iso-principle to meet a client where they are to serve them in the most efficacious and person-centered way. All ages are served by music therapy, but it will look different based on the uniqueness of the client -- age, strengths, needs, music preferences, and more.
