Western societies market queer acceptance as a Western, modern idea. However, the opposite is true. Pre-colonization, the vast majority of indigenous groups around the world held space for what we now call queer identities. This session will explore how Western Europe, specifically the British, exported cisheteropatriarchy, homophobia, and transphobia during their violent colonial conquests. Participants will learn this history while discussing the current political ramifications of transphobia, and pinkwashing seen here and in other settler states.
We’ll also have snacks and time to socialize so come learn with us and make a new friend ✨
Attendance will be capped, RSVP early as it will be closed once limit is reached.
