How Therapists Can Provide Queer-Affirming Mental Health!

Denver Family Institute would like to invite youth-serving professionals to our upcoming virtual "Lunch and Learn" on October 22nd or December 3rd to discuss an emerging therapeutic model, the "Queer Adjusted Systemic Lens!"

The model will be presented by its creator, August Tousignant-Stanton, LCSW, LMFT (they/them). August is a member of the American Association of Marriage & Family Therapists (AAMFT's) group of queer therapists, QTAN (the Queer and Trans Advocacy Network). As part of QTAN, August composed the chapter on working with queer children for AAMFT's new guidebook, "GENDER-AFFIRMING CARE: Guidelines for Working Systemically with Transgender, Nonbinary, and Gender Expansive Clients." (Available for free here.) August will be presenting their model at AAMFT's Systemic Family Therapy conference in late October 2025.

August's new model, the "Queer Adjusted Systemic Lens," is focused on giving professionals who work with queer youth & their families a new approach to their work; one that affirms the identity of clients, acknowledges the real risks (and the very real benefits) of queer thriving, and how to maneuver relationships and systems beyond "neutrality." There will be a Q&A following the presentation.

If you have any questions, please contact Miguel Valdez, DFI Program Manager, at miguelvaldez@denverfamilyinstitute.org. We look forward to seeing you at the "Lunch and Learn!"
