SUMMARY:How Therapists Can Provide Queer-Affirming Mental Health!
DESCRIPTION:Denver Family Institute would like to invite youth-serving professionals to our upcoming virtual "Lunch and Learn" on October 22nd or December 3rd to discuss an emerging therapeutic model\, the "Queer Adjusted Systemic Lens!" \nThe model will be presented by its creator\, August Tousignant-Stanton\, LCSW\, LMFT (they/them). August is a member of the American Association of Marriage & Family Therapists (AAMFT's) group of queer therapists\, QTAN (the Queer and Trans Advocacy Network). As part of QTAN\, August composed the chapter on working with queer children for AAMFT's new guidebook\, "GENDER-AFFIRMING CARE: Guidelines for Working Systemically with Transgender\, Nonbinary\, and Gender Expansive Clients." (Available for free here.) August will be presenting their model at AAMFT's Systemic Family Therapy conference in late October 2025. \nAugust's new model\, the "Queer Adjusted Systemic Lens\," is focused on giving professionals who work with queer youth & their families a new approach to their work; one that affirms the identity of clients\, acknowledges the real risks (and the very real benefits) of queer thriving\, and how to maneuver relationships and systems beyond "neutrality." There will be a Q&A following the presentation.\nIf you have any questions\, please contact Miguel Valdez\, DFI Program Manager\, at miguelvaldez@denverfamilyinstitute.org. We look forward to seeing you at the "Lunch and Learn!"

SUMMARY:Reapproaching Media & Migration with Motus Theater’s ImmigrantAmerica Project & Guest Leaders in Colorado Media
DESCRIPTION:I’m not part of some invading army fighting against America\, but\, like many of you\, I’m fighting for the American ideals I think we can live up to.\n- Cristian Solano-Córdova\, Motus Monologist with DACA \nJoin Motus Theater’s ImmigrantAmerica for an evening of autobiographical monologues from Colorado DACA recipients\, co-read by the monologists and leaders in Colorado media\, with musical guests. After the performance\, there will be a moderated discussion between Motus leaders\, guest readers in the media\, and the audience on the use and misuse of immigration narratives in the media. \nMotus Theater’s ImmigrantAmerica monologues invite listeners to experience the powerful and moving personal stories of undocumented people caught in the crosshairs of U.S. immigration policy\, and to practice courageous empathy and civic hospitality by listening to and getting to know our undocumented neighbors. Motus’ ImmigrantAmerica project has been described as\, “The gold standard for narratives on immigration.”

SUMMARY:In Conversation: Cannupa Hanska Luger & Miranda Lash
DESCRIPTION:A conversation and book signing with Cannupa Hanska Luger about his debut book\, “SURVIVA: A Future Ancestral Field Guide.”\n\n\nJoin us at the Holiday Theater for an intimate conversation with multidisciplinary artist Cannupa Hanska Luger and MCA Denver’s Ellen Bruss Chief Curator\, Miranda Lash. Together\, they’ll discuss Luger’s debut book\, SURVIVA: A Future Ancestral Field Guide\, and how his Mandan/Hidatsa/Lakota heritage — what he describes as being descended from “Water People” — informs his call to treat nature with reverence rather than as a resource. The conversation reflects themes present in our current exhibitions: Roni Horn: Water\, Water on the Wall\, You’re the Fairest of Them All\, and Deborah Jack: the haunting of estuaries…the (after)math of confluence. \nSURVIVA: A Future Ancestral Field Guide will be available for purchase\, and Cannupa will be on hand to sign copies after the discussion.

SUMMARY:Immersive Theatre Performance at the Teen Library (Ages 13-19 only)
DESCRIPTION:Experience a theatrical performance at the library! Ideal for ages 13-19. \nCult of Cthulhu transforms Lovecraft’s work into a campy\, interactive satire — with tentacles. \nThis brand new immersive horror comedy experience draws directly from the unsettling tales of H.P. Lovecraft\, bringing a modern spin to his classic mythos of eldritch horrors and inviting audiences to join one of the Old Ones dark cults. Audacious Immersive has been redefining Halloween theatre in Denver for nearly a decade. With Cult of Cthulhu\, they continue crafting a new Halloween tradition for the city: interactive literary horror in community spaces. Known for blending theatricality\, comedy\, and audience participation into unforgettable shows\, Audacious promises their most biting (and hilarious) Halloween experience yet.  Prepare to laugh nervously\, shiver deeply\, and maybe lose a fragment of your sanity along the way.
