SUMMARY:LGBTQIA+ Peer Support Group for Suicide Loss
DESCRIPTION:Starting Wednesday\, September 18\, 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM MST\, this 10-week virtual group offers a safe\, affirming space for LGBTQIA+ individuals grieving the loss of a loved one to suicide. Participants will connect with others who understand the unique layers of LGBTQIA+ grief\, from disenfranchisement and invisibility to the strength of chosen family.  The dates for this will be September 18\, 25\, October 2\, 9\, 16\, 23\, 30\, November 6\, 13\, & 20 \nThe group is facilitated by Steven Karaiskos\, Ph.D.\, a suicide loss survivor who lost his partner\, David\, to suicide in 2009. That loss shaped his career as an educator\, grief expert\, and community builder. Steven is the former Senior Director of Education with Samaritans\, Inc.\, has over six years of experience leading peer support groups through Coping After Suicide\, and currently serves as Director of Programming for The Kita Center\, home to Camp Kita and expanded retreats for communities impacted by suicide loss.  Contact Steven for more info at stevenjkaraiskos@gmail.com

HIV\, STI\, etc.? \nPrevention in Outreach offers rapid testing for HIV\, Hepatitis C and Syphilis. Syphilis rapid testing is dependent on not having been diagnosed for syphilis prior. Chlamydia and gonorrhea tests are completed through traditional lab-based testing\, with results taking between 2-3 business days. The Outreach team will discuss options for how results are delivered to clients. \nHow does one make an appointment? What days can one make an appointment? What are the general hours testing is available? \nAppointments are typically offered Wednesdays from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM and Thursdays from 12:00 - 4:00 PM. There are some exceptions to this general schedule\, so see above for specific upcoming dates. Appointments are held at The Center on Colfax. \nTo schedule an appointment\, you can call or text our Outreach mobile number at 720-415-7075\, Monday through Friday between 8am and 5pm. \nOther important information -  \nThe Public Health Institute at Denver Health’s Outreach team does provide testing services outside of The Center\, on a walk-in basis\, daily\, at multiple locations  throughout the Metro. There are morning and evening walk-in times available\, please call or text 720-415-7075 for locations and hours. \nWe also provide pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) education and navigation services. There are payment assistance options that we can help enroll individuals into and help schedule appointments\, all at no cost.
