SUMMARY:LGBTQIA+ Peer Support Group for Suicide Loss
DESCRIPTION:Starting Wednesday\, September 18\, 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM MST\, this 10-week virtual group offers a safe\, affirming space for LGBTQIA+ individuals grieving the loss of a loved one to suicide. Participants will connect with others who understand the unique layers of LGBTQIA+ grief\, from disenfranchisement and invisibility to the strength of chosen family.  The dates for this will be September 18\, 25\, October 2\, 9\, 16\, 23\, 30\, November 6\, 13\, & 20 \nThe group is facilitated by Steven Karaiskos\, Ph.D.\, a suicide loss survivor who lost his partner\, David\, to suicide in 2009. That loss shaped his career as an educator\, grief expert\, and community builder. Steven is the former Senior Director of Education with Samaritans\, Inc.\, has over six years of experience leading peer support groups through Coping After Suicide\, and currently serves as Director of Programming for The Kita Center\, home to Camp Kita and expanded retreats for communities impacted by suicide loss.  Contact Steven for more info at stevenjkaraiskos@gmail.com

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate pride and yourself by signing up for free yoga this summer! \nThis summer\, Blake O'Connor is offering free weekly yoga classes specifically for the Denver LGBTQ+ community. These classes are designed for all levels of activity\, flexibility\, and yoga practice experience. As part of his Master's practicum\, these hour-long Ashtanga-style yoga classes (no heat or music) include physical postures (asana) and light breathwork (pranayama) to help you recover\, focus\, and feel great. All we ask is that you commit to attending one class per week for 6 weeks\, and complete three quick surveys (pre\, mid\, post) to help with the research. Classes are designed to help practitioners improve mobility\, enhance concentration\, develop their own practice\, and build community connection in a relaxed setting. \nReady to roll out your mat? DESCRIPTION:A remarkable performance featuring Motus monologists Laura Peniche\, Alejandro Fuentes Mena & Cristian Solano-Córdova\, violinist Anthony Salvo and the Boulder Phil's String Quartet. \nIn this special collaboration\, Motus Monologists with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) perform artfully crafted personal stories of immigration accompanied by violin underscore\, interspersed by musical responses curated by Director of Education and pianist Fernanda Nieto. Regardless of your ideas about immigration policy\, come together for an evening of beautiful and profound monologues\, music and community\, as we get to know more about our immigrant neighbors. Co-presented with the Longmont Multicultural Action Committee and made possible with the support of the Bob Braudes & Nancy Clairmont Family Fund. \nThis performance is free\, but registration is required.
